Using the Rise and Set Calculator on Gemini

On the Gemini website, you can use theаrise and set calculator (RST)аto determine when your science target is above the horizon. The table below shows an example of the RST calculator for Jupiter in March. Since the RST doesn’t have any warnings (see next image), Rigel would automatically schedual to observe Jupiter when it is transiting, i.e., crossing the merdian.

Depending on the object you chose to observe, the RST calculator will show something similar to the image below. This is the output for the RST for Jupiter in November, when it is only above the horizon at night for a brief period. Notice the warning that it gives at the bottom of the image, stating that the transit occurs during the daytime. Despite the fact that Jupiter would be crossing the merdian during the day, you could still observe Jupiter by specifiying an LST start time in the schedualing tool.
