Asteroid Light Curves

During the months of September and October 2003, students in the Advanced Astronomical Laboratory course observed seventeen asteroids using the Rigel telescope at multiple epochs to determine their rotation periods. The results were submitted to the CALL website and a research paper  was sent to the Minor Planet Bulletin. Click on the plot for a larger image.

During the Spring semester of 2004, Sarah Willis observed five asteroids at multiple epochs to determine their rotation periods. The results were submitted to the CALL website and a second research paper was published.

Here is a sample movie of an asteroid (228 Agathe) moving through a stationary star field produced by students in the Astronomical laboratory course. Note the second asteroid!
