Notes: 1. The overall translation between total points and letter grades is slightly different (about 1%) from the provisional table given in the lecture notes on April 21 to more closely match the CLAS guidelines for grade distributions for under-100 level courses. Here is the final scale.
2. For students registered for lab (4 s.h.), the lab grade counts 25% of the total grade (300 points out of 1200 total points). Aslo note that the lab grades have been adjusted to account for systematic differences in grades among the lab sections. This is what the columns mean: 1. Total Points. This is the total points earned from exams, homeworks, observing exercise, PRS quizzes, lab (4 s.h.), and extra credit. A 'perfect' score is 900 points for 3 s.h. students and 1200 points for 4 s.h. students (although with extra credit this number can exceed the 900/1200 point total). 2. Percent. The ratio of points earned to 900 (3 s.h.) or 1200 (4 s.h.) points. 3. Grade. Letter grade based on the percent and table above. 4. HW Sum. Total points from top 12 homeworks (lowest homework dropped). A perfect score is 240 points (plus possible extra credit). 5. EC Sum. All extra credit points from in-class lectures. Note that the Millionaire quizzes did not register correctly and could not be counted. 6. Exam sum. Sum of points from 3 of 4 hourly exams (lowest dropped). Total possible points = 3 x 100 = 300. 7. PRS Sum. Sum of points from 6 PRS quizzes (none dropped). Total possible points = 25 x 6 = 150. 8. Obs. Proj. Points earned from observing project. Total required points = 60 (100% credit) plus up to 25 EC points (85 possible) 9. Final. Final exam score, Total possible points = 150 (Mean score was 95 = 63%). 10. Lab score. Normalized lab score, with 300 points possible. Note that these scores have been adjusted to account for systematic differences in average scores for all lab sections. |
