obs-plan

Obs-plan calculates useful observing parameters such as expected signal-to-noise ratio, saturation time, and peak ADU count as a function of observing conditions and apparent magnitude of the object. Note that this only applies to point-like objects (e.g., stars, asteroids), not extended objects (e.g., nebulae, galaxies). All inputs have default values except apparent magnitude.

Usage: obs-plan [options]

Program obs-plan calculates SNR, peak ADU count, saturation time given star

magnitude,          and [optionally] sky brightness, seeing, airmass

Options:

  --version          show program's version number and exit

  -h, --help         show this help message and exit

  -m App. magnitude  Apparent magnitude [no default]

  -M Moon phase      Moon (dark, quarter, full), default quarter

  -f FWHM seeing     FWHM seeing (arcsec) [default 2.5]

  -z Airmass         Airmass [default 1.0]

  -t Exposure time   Exposure time,sec [default = 10]

  -v                 Verbose output
