VIRGA is defined as a fallstreak of precipitation, not reaching ground but evaporating in mid-air. Virga fallstreaks in combination with sunrise or sunset can give a stunning view of deep red hairy fibers reaching down from the clouds.
A virga fallstreak usually consists of snow, and when this melts, it may be hardly visible. Virga fallstreaks from high clouds rarely (if ever) reach the ground.
