Syllabus Information:

Attendance:

Attendance is mandatory, not optional.  As such, please refrain from making appointments with professors, doctor's appointments, work related meetings, etc. where you would have to miss class or leave early.  If you absolutely must miss a class, please contact me ahead of time if possible.  I will try my hardest to find time for you to make up the lab, but sometimes this can be difficult to accomplish.

What to bring to Lab:
You must bring your lab manual, a notebook, a scientific calculator (one that does sin and cos), and a pencil.  Please note: The Physics and Astronomy department does not supply me with calculators to hand out.

Grading:

Through out the semester you will be responsible for 11, in-class (see the schedule below for a points scale), one night sky observing field-trip, one research proposal, and one presentation of a research topic of your choosing.  In-class labs will be due the following lab period and should be written on the provided worksheets.

General Lab Information:
A blog site has been setup for general information regarding field trips, telescope status, lab corrections, and other general information.  Please check it out at http://phobos.physics.uiowa.edu/astroblog

Dropping the Lab:

You do NOT come to me at all to drop the lab.  To drop the Lab you need to go to the main office (203 VAN) and see Heather at the front desk.  You may also drop the lab and continue to take the lecture portion of the class only.

Special Accommodations:

If you have a disability or in any way need some sort of accommodation to help with the course, see me after class or during my office hours so we can discuss arrangements.

Complaints:
Please feel free to contact me if there are any concerns.  Otherwise you may talk to Prof. Lang, Prof. Bryce, or with the Physics and Astronomy Chair in 203 Van Allen Hall.
